CBD: WHAT & WHY
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a prominent, naturally occurring but non-psychotropic component of plants in the cannabis genus. It is typically derived by extraction of hemp plant material such as flowers and leaves. While natural CBD is always the same chemical compound, there are a few ways that the industry talks about CBD as a product input. See below for more information.
FULL SPECTRUM CBD EXTRACT
Extract made from the whole hemp plant, including stems, leaves and flowers, that contains many other cannabinoids, including THC.
BROAD SPECTRUM CBD EXTRACT
Broad Spectrum extract contains all of the additional cannabinoids that Full Spectrum contains except for THC, which has been removed.
Isolate has been further refined to contain only CBD and none of the other compounds found in the hemp plant.
IS CBD LEGAL?
The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, also called Farm Bill, excluded hemp and its derivatives from the definition of marijuana and removed it from the Controlled Substances Act. Recognizing hemp as a valuable agricultural commodity and supporting its cultivation for many purposes including food, fiber and oil. Hemp contains only trace levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes intoxication in marijuana. Hemp with 0.3% THC or less, and its other natural components such as CBD, is no longer a controlled substance.
